Outdoor Playdough

Using up old playdough outside is a fun, messy and inventive activity for young children. Imaginative play is important for developing skills and building the connections in the brain between knowledge and discovery.



Time: 5 minutes to prepare
Age: Under 10s
Level: Easy


Materials
Old playdough
Playdough toys
Plastic trays, egg cartons, bowls etc.
Access to water, dirt, sand, grass and gardens.

Method
Take the old playdough, playdough toys, trays, cartons and bowls outside.
Show your children which parts of the garden you are happy for them to play with.
Watch what they choose to do when you let them add dirt, sand, herbs, water to the play dough.
Join in the imaginative play and enjoy 'sampling' their creations!


A delicious mud soup with playdough dumplings and sand pepper sprinkled on top.


A floral arrangement for you to keep.


Play dough tea, which you can sip while they play.


Some playdough mini cakes ready to go into the pretend oven.


A tray of treats. Added dirt makes chocolate muffins. Added parsely for herb scones. Added suculents make the cherry on top for a this scoop of play dough ice cream.
