Here's how to make your own 3D pirate portrait.
: 1 hour
A4 card (blue or yellow)
Take a single sheet of newspaper, fold over the edges, and Sellotape them down.
Take another sheet of newspaper and fold over the first sheet. Repeat this several times until you have a roundish cushion shape. This is the head of your pirate.
Glue the pirate's head onto a piece of A4 card. Choose between blue for the sky and sea or yellow for sand.
Paint the head your skin colour of choice.
Tear off five strips of newspaper. Roll two strips into balls for the eyes, then paint them white. Wait for the paint to dry before painting in black pupils.
Twist the third strip of news paper round and round to make a mouth, and then paint it in a slightly darker shade to the head.
Paint the fourth strip the same colour as the head, then glue the two ends down to the centre of the head like an arch, so that it looks like a nose.
Glue the eyes and mouth in place.
Paint in a background of your choice (sky, clouds, birds, sea, sand, etc).
Draw an eyepatch on a piece of paper, then colour it in black, and cut it out.
Stick the eyepatch over one of the pirate's eyes.
Glue down some long stringy wool on the pirate's head for hair.
