You can stamp with more than just potatoes

Potato printing is a classic but there are lots of other fruits and vegetables you can experiment with. If you cut the pieces in advance, then your toddler can have endless fun trying different techniques and effects

Time: 10 minutes plus
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
Paint
Paper
Selection of fruit or vegetables (we used part of an onion, curly cabbage, a piece of carrot and a sugar snap pea)

Try slicing the end off a curly cabbage or even a lettuce

Method
Prepare the vegetables if needed. Onions have a lovely layered effect inside and look great when you slice them across. I also sliced across the bottom of an old curly cabbage as well as removing a leaf. The carrot was just a chunk and the sugar snap pea was left whole.
Lay out different colours of paint onto a paper plate or something similar. Spread out the paint so that the vegetables can be dipped in.

Let your toddler experiment with dipping in the vegetables pieces and printing them onto paper.

Talk about the patterns, shapes and see the difference created depending on how much paint is used.
