This one is a bit tricky, but the result is definitely worth the effort.

Time: 40 minutes
Age: Over 10's
Level: Hard

Materials
Cardboard
Hot Glue Gun
Pencil/Marker
Cotton bud
Glue stick
Shoe polish
Tissue

Method
Draw a pattern or picture on the cardboard.

Carefully trace the picture with the hot glue gun, keeping lines as even as possible. Allow to dry for, well, about five seconds (I love hot glue guns!)

Smear glue stick all over the cardboard.

Very carefully push the foil onto the board. Start from the middle and push the foil inwards as you go, so it doesn't stretch over the crevices. Use a cotton bud if you have one, because it is gentle in the corners.

Use a pen or pencil to score patterns into the foil.

Cover the whole thing with shoe polish and leave for a few minutes (not too long or the polish will dry completely).

Wipe off excess with a tissue for an aged metallic look. Nice!

If you're game, try making name plates for kids' bedrooms! You can also use coloured permanent markers and colour in the sections to create an anodised aluminium look. Just scribble with marker in each area and then gently wipe it around with a tissue.
