This is a simple watercolour and pen project that looks really effective. You could draw this on a longer, larger sheet and create a wall mural for a fun party activity.

Painting of a village with gold-topped domed buildings

Time: 30 minutes
Age: 5-10's, Over 10's
Level: Medium

Materials
Watercolour paper or thick cartridge paper
Pencil
Ruler
Watercolour paints in a selection of colours
Thick paint brush and a thinner paint brush
Gold pen or gold ink

Method
Using the pencil and ruler fill the about two thirds of the paper with rectangles for buildings. Vary the size of them and make sure you include some long, thin ones for the towers.

Paper, rectangles, cutting board

Add circular domes to the top of the long, thin towers.

Add windows and architectural details to the buildings - in this style of architecture details like zig-zags, circles and other geometric patterns are common.

Start to fill in the buildings with different colours of watercolour paint, leaving a small white gap between the edges of each building.

When the buildings are dry use the golden ink or gold pen to paint the golden domes.

Once this is dry, use the gold to go over some of the architectural details. You don't need to do all of them, but picking out a few will make the picture all the more striking.

Finally, using blue watercolour and green/yellow watercolours paint in sky and grass.
