Create a chunky underwater-themed necklace or decorations for the home.
: 20 minutes plus cooling time
: Over 10's (must be accompanied by an adult at all times)
30g beeswax pellets (per shell)
Madeline cake tin moulds
Oil for greasing
1 tsp choice of coloured pigment powder
Heat proof measuring/pouring jug
Rubber gloves for protection
Pour water 1/2 way up the saucepan, bring to the boil, and then simmer.
Pour the beeswax pellets into the jug and place the jug in the water.
Allow the wax to melt into a liquid, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the coloured pigment.
Lightly grease the madeline moulds.
If you are making a necklacle, place the string/chains across each mould. Make sure that it is centred correctly so the ends are of equal lengths.
If you are just make decorations, then skip the string stage.
Quickly (but very carefully) pour the melted beeswax into the moulds. (Either an adult should do this or the child should wear rubber gloves and be supervised).
Allow the wax to cool completely before remove them from the moulds.
