I'm always on the look out for different painting, printing or stamping techniques to add a little something different when my son wants to paint.

You don't always need to come up with fancy and unusual ideas. Just trying different materials from straws to cotton buds and leaves all add a little interest.

Here's a cheap idea that only requires some disposable drink straws.

Time: 10 minutes
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
Disposable plastic drinking straws
Paint
Paper
Scissors

Method
Snip the end of a few straws and bend back the spokes that you make.

Give the straws to your child and give them free reign to experiment.

My three year old and his cousin had some messy fun. They started by stamping the straws and then tried twisting them around and scratching them across the paper.

My son thought that this little stamps looked like bird footprints.
