Paper plates are a must have staple in my kid's craft box. They're so versatile and cheap too. You can easily transform a simple paper plate into a toddler pop up hat in any design. Why not try a heart for Valentine's Day, a Christmas tree for the festive season or a star for a best in class winner.

This would also be a good activity do if you were trying to occupy a larger group of kids. They can all decorate their hat and an adult can quickly cut out the pop up shape.

Time: 20 minutes
Age: Under 5's, 5-10's
Level: Easy to Medium

Materials
Paint
Paper Plate
Scissor
Other decorations (glittler, sequins, pens etc)

Method
Decorate the paper plate. My son and his friend experimented with paint, sponge stamping and at one point lots of glitter. When I say lots of glitter, I mean lots!

Once the paper plates are dry, it's time to cut them into a pop up hat.

Fold the paper plate in half.

The centre of the plate has been cut into half a heart shape

Cut the hole for the head by cutting a semi circle, leaving a band but don't cut all the way to end.
To make the pop up shape, cut a half shape of your chosen design.
Unfold the paper plate and pop up the shape you have created.
