A simple science project for older kids or just a fun game for younger ones. Making the ball levitate is a great challenge for all.

Time: 10 minutes
Age: 5-10's, Over 10's
Level: Easy

Materials
Thin card
Plastic bendy drinking straw
Tissue paper or small lightweight ball (like a ping pong ball)
Sticky tape
Blu tack / poster tack

Method
Cut a small to mid sized circle from the card. I used a bowl as a template.

Cut a slit from the edge to the centre of the circle.

Decorate the circle if you like. We had some paints out already so created some colourful fingers spots.
Bend the circle, pulling the edges from the slit towards each other to create a shallow cone and then secure closed with sticky tape.

Snip the pointed end of the cone off, just large enough to insert your plastic straw.
Insert the straw through the hole with the bendy end furthest away and then bend the straw.
Secure the straw with some blu tack or poster tak on the inside. This will also help create a seal.

Scrunch up some tissue paper to make a small lightweight ball or use a ping pong ball.
Place the ball inside the cone and then blow through the straw. The ball will float on the air.

How long can you keep the ball in the air?
What happens if you blow really hard?
What happens if you blow very gently?
