This is a fun picture to make and to play with. The canoe is 3D and the figures sit in the canoe rather than being stuck down so they can be moved around and changed. We cut out some pictures of people from a childrens' clothing catalogue, but you could also use photos or draw your own characters.

Materials
Blue, green, grey, yellow crayons
Two lollipop (popsicle) sticks
Approx A5 size piece dark card
Magazine with pictures of people (or you could use photographs or draw your own people)
Low cost materials
Draw a watery scene on the bottom half of your thick card with the blue, green and grey crayons. Draw a yellow sun at the top.
Cut two small rectangles from the dark coloured card and glue onto the ends of the two lollipop (popsicle) sticks. Leave these to the side to dry. These are the paddles for your canoe.

Mix blue paint with some water to make a thin wash and brush over the thick card on top of the crayon. The crayon wax will resist the paint and shine through.

Cut up the blue cellophane into small pieces and glue on to the bottom of the scene to make watery waves

Cut the bottom off a plastic plate to make your canoe
Apply strong PVA glue to the rim of your boat and glue on to the waves
Glue your paddles on to the canoe with strong glue
Cut some people out of old magazines. Or you could use photographs (ask an adult first for ones you could cut up) or draw your own people
Stick the people onto card and cut out

You can now put your people into your canoe scene. As they are not stuck down you can move them around and change them around.
Give your people names and make up a story about where they are going canoeing, what they see, what they have brought for their picnic etc.
