This is something I learnt to do when I was at school, while studying the ancient Greeks and Romans. It is just as good an activity now as it was then. Make your own ancient jug out of a milk carton to use decoratively.

Method
Using scissors, pierce the milk carton at the top of the handle.
Cut off the lid section to create a slanted opening.
Turn the lid section upside dow, and place inside the opening so that it forms the lip of the jug. Glue this in place.
Cut strips of newspaper, and glue onto the carton. You should glue on about three layers of newspaper, leaving each layer to dry between turns.
Paint the cartoon so that it is a orange/terracotta colour, like that of a flower pot.
