Here's a fun Animal Footprint Game for young children which explores counting, sizes, shapes, comparisons and matching. Very young children can just enjoy the process of making the footprints.
Time: 30 minutes
Age: Under 5's, 5 to 10s
Level: Easy
Materials
Selection of plastic animals
Modelling clay or play dough

Choose animals with different types of footprint e.g. various numbers of legs, sizes of footprint, types of footprint - hooves, flippers, paws etc
Method
Roll out flat pieces of modelling clay or play dough
Press each animal footprint into a piece of clay to make a print.
Spend some time looking at how many footprints each animal has, how big is their footprint, what shape is their footprint (e.g.hoof, paw, flipper etc) etc

Big and small

Hooves

Tentacles
Now line the animals up and take turns to close your eyes whilst another person picks an animal and makes a print. Put the animal back where it was picked from and everyone can open their eyes again.
The guessers have to pick which animal made the footprint by looking at the number of footprints, size of footprint, type of footprint etc
