This little chick egg cosy will bring a smile to anyone having a boiled egg

Boiled eggs and soldiers are a favourite teatime treat. You can make a little chick egg cosy to keep your egg warm. You only need a few materials and it's a great way to practise some basic sewing skills too.

Time: 20 minutes
Age: 5-10's, Over 10's
Level: Medium

Materials
  • 2 shades of yellow felt
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Orange embroidery thread
  • Googly eyes or small buttons
  • Glue

  • Method
  • Fold your felt in half.
  • Mark out a half egg shape.

  • The half egg shape needs to be larger than an egg so that it will fit over

  • Cut out your shape and you will have two pieces of the same size.

  • The front and back of the baby chick egg cosy

  • Put your two pieces of felt together.
  • Thread your needle with the orange embroidery thread and stitch the curved sides together. You can use a simple stitch by piercing through both pieces of felt and taking the thread over the edge and back through. Make sure you don't sew the straight bottom as this is where your egg will pop in.

  • If youre not confident about sewing, you could glue the edges together

  • Glue on a couple of googly eyes and a triangle of felt in another shade of yellow.

  • You could use small buttons instead of googly eyes

Your baby chick is now ready to keep your boiled egg warm. What other animals could you make?
