Beetroot juice makes a natural, pretty, cheap and yummy art material.

Time: 4 hours
Age: Any Age
Level: Medium

Materials
Fresh Beetroot
Saucepan
Knife
Water
Ice cube tray
Jug
Paper
Paintbrushes
Small containers

Method
Peel and dice the beetroot.

Cover in water, then simmer on the stove top for 90 minutes. Check occasionally that the beets are still under water.

Pour the liquid into the jug, reserve the flesh.

Pour the liquid from the jug, into ice cube trays. Place in the freezer and leave for 2-3hours until frozen solid.

Pour a little of the beet paint into two paint pots. Add a little water to one paint pot. Paint using fine brushes. Reserve the left over beetroot paint, it will last a week in a closed container in the fridge.

Once the beetroot ice is frozen, take out of the freezer and paint with the ice directly onto paper.

The reserved flesh can be eaten as is, or added to muffins and cakes for a nutritious and pretty treat.
