Fun activity to do in a group

This is a fun activity for kids of any age. We tried it with four children aged between two and four years old. It was great to do as a group as they built upon each others ideas and techniques to decorate their bodies. Older children could do more complex decoration and cut clothes out of fabric scraps

Time: 30 minutes
Age: Under 5's, 5-10's, Over 10's, Any Age
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Long roll of paper (I used a roll of craft paper from IKEA but you could also use wallpaper liner paper or the reverse side of spare wallpaper)
  • Thick black pen
  • Various colours of paint and crayons
  • Other decoration items e.g. scraps of coloured tissue paper, feathers, material scraps, googly eyes, feathers etc
  • Glue

  • Cheap materials

    Method
  • Cut a length of paper that is longer than your child and lay the paper on the ground, weighing down the ends with stones or tape.

  • Ready to draw

  • Ask the child to lie down on the paper and make a pose. Draw around the child's outline with a thick black pen or crayon being careful not to mark clothes.

  • Bodies ready to decorate

  • Now the body is ready to decorate
  • Use a variety of materials and techniques to decorate your body.

  • Younger children will enjoy adding googly eyes to make a face

Using hand prints to make hair

    Using crayons

A piece of tree bark was a fun material to stick on for hair

Paint rollers gave a good pattern for clothes
