Calico Shopping Bag
Reusable shopping bags are popular to cut down on plastic waste. It's always handy to have a fabric bag which is easy to roll up and keep in the bottom of a handbag or in the back of your car. Calico shopping bags are nice and soft and great fun for kids to decorate. For this project, my 3 year old daughter used fabric pastel dye sticks, but you could also try fabric paints or markers and experiment with stencils or stamps.
Time: 5 minutes
Age: Any Age
Level: Easy
Materials
Calico shopping bag
Fabric pastel dye sticks (or fabric paints, fabric markers)
Materials ready to go
Method
Simply use the fabric pastels to draw straight onto the calico bag
The fun part
When you are happy with the design, put a sheet of paper towel (or old tea towel) over the bag and iron for a few minutes to fix the markings (or follow your fabric paint manufacturers instructions)
Fix the dye by ironing so that it wont smudge and can be washed too
You can now use your bag without smudging the design. You should also be able to safely wash your bag when needed
I think this would make a great Mothers Day gift
Why not try this as an easy and fun activity for a kids birthday party? This would also make a great personal Christmas present for a grandparent or Mothers Day gift.
Post a picture of your creation in the comments forum.
