Yummy and easy, these chocolate covered pretzels are great for any special occasion. Involve children in the process by allowing them to dip and/or decorate! Wrap them up in pretty bags or containers for a special home made gift.

Time: 30 minutes for 9 dozen pretzels (plus hardening time for chocolate)
Age: Any Age
Level: Easy

Material:
225 g (8 ounces) semi-sweet baking chocolate
Mini pretzel twists
2 tablespoons shortening
Sprinkles or white chocolate for decorating (optional)
Baking trays
Parchment paper

Method
Cover the baking trays with parchment paper.
Melt chocolate and vegetable shortening together in a double boiler.

Pretzel plate
A proper double boiler is not required. I simply used a metal mixing bowl in one of the my sauce pans.

Remove from heat and allow chocolate to cool slightly.
Throw in pretzel twists, coat completely with chocolate and remove with a fork. Allow excess chocolate to drip off and place on parchment covered tray.

The amount of time you allow for dripping of the excess chocolate is up to you! We only took a few seconds.

If you are decorating the pretzels, sprinkle while the chocolate is still wet.

Sprinkles

If you are using white chocolate to drizzle over the dark chocolate, allow the first layer of chocolate to cool completely.
Allow the chocolate to harden. We placed our trays in the freezer for a couple of hours.
Remove from the parchment paper and package as you wish!

Note: It is best to keep the pretzels in a cool place such as a fridge to ensure the chocolate stays hard.
