Time: 15 minutes
Age: Any Age
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Modeling Clay
  • Paint
  • Paint brushes

  • Method
  • Roll one round ball out of clay to create a snail's head, and then press two eyes onto the head.

  • Depending on the age of your child, an adult may need to help with this step.

  • Using pipe cleaners, cut two identical two inch long antennae and affix them to the top of the head by gently pushing them approximately one cm into the clay.

  • If you push these in at least one cm, they should remain affixed once the snail has dried.

  • Roll a cylindar out of clay for to create the snail's body. Press the head firmly to the body.

  • Ensure that any indents created during this process are smoothed out.

  • Using any colour of paint you like, create a swirl on each side of the snail's body. Also paint the snail's eyes and mouth.

  • For our snail, my child chose to use different colours for the body, head and swirl, which adds to the bright and cheery look.

  • Out of clay, create a leaf-shaped holder for the snail, ensuring it is large enough for your snail to rest upon. Then, paint the leaf any colour your child likes.

  • We chose green for the leaf, but you can be as creative as youd like with this step.

  • Once the paint and clay are dry, the snail can be placed on the leaf.

  • Give to grandparents as a gift, or keep as a decoration for your childs room.
