Count and Stack Christmas Tree

A simple and inexpensive Christmas activity that helps pre-schoolers learn their numbers and practice their building skills as they sort, count and stack a Christmas Tree.

Time: 5 minutes preparation (and endless play time)
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
  • 10 disposable paper or plastic cups
  • 1 Bow or Star topper
  • Black Marker

    Method
  • Turn the cups upside down.

  • [Image3]
  • Write a number on the bottom of each cup from 1-10.

  • Stack the cups on a flat surface. Set cups 1-4 in a straight line leaving a little space between each cup.

  • Stack cups 5-7 on top of the first row of cups.

  • [Image7]
  • Stack cups 8-9 to form the third row.

  • [Image8]
  • Stack cup 10 on the very top.

  • [Image9]
  • Finish off your Christmas tree with a bow or star topper.

  • Let your little one topple the tree and start again!

  • To make it more of a puzzle for older kids, mix up the numbers so they have to sort them before stacking.

    Tips: If using plain coloured cups, you can decorate them with Christmas stickers.
