A simple and inexpensive Christmas activity that helps pre-schoolers learn their numbers and practice their building skills as they sort, count and stack a Christmas Tree.
Time: 5 minutes preparation (and endless play time)
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy
Materials
10 disposable paper or plastic cups
Method
Turn the cups upside down.
Write a number on the bottom of each cup from 1-10.
Stack the cups on a flat surface. Set cups 1-4 in a straight line leaving a little space between each cup.
Stack cups 5-7 on top of the first row of cups.
Stack cups 8-9 to form the third row.
Stack cup 10 on the very top.
Finish off your Christmas tree with a bow or star topper.
Let your little one topple the tree and start again!
To make it more of a puzzle for older kids, mix up the numbers so they have to sort them before stacking.
Tips: If using plain coloured cups, you can decorate them with Christmas stickers.
