Wax crayon resist pictures are easy to create and involve two things that little kids love - crayons and paint. Younger children will enjoy a good scribble and liberal splashing of paint, whilst slightly older children can create more detailed pictures.

Time: 20 minutes
Age: Under 5's and 5-10s
Level: Easy

Materials
Wax crayons
White paper

Method
Using a variety of colours of crayon to draw fireworks on a white piece of paper. Pressing firmly will get the best effect.

Start by drawing with crayon

Water down some black paint to make a wash.
Liberally paint over the crayon picture.
The crayon will resist the paint and reveal the firework picture.

Why not try an underwater scene with a bright orange octopus or little creatures like ladybirds or spiders.

Young children can just create a big scribble and then have fun painting over it.
