Permanent marker decorated mug

This is a cheap and easy way to decorate your own ceramics without having to buy specialised ceramic paints or pens. These make great presents for someone special too.

You can easily pick up a cheap white mug from a discount or charity shop. This one only cost 90p.

Time: 20 minutes plus 30 minutes in the oven
Age: Over 10's
Level: Medium

Materials
White ceramic mug
Black permanent marker (Sharpie)

Method
Use a glazed ceramic mug
Draw anything you like on the mug. It could be a picture, random design or just a simple message.

Why not decorate the handle and you could also sign your name and put the date on the underneath.
Place the mug in a cold oven and turn the temperature to 170 degrees C or 350 degrees F. It's best to start with the oven cold so that the mug doesn't shatter.

Bake the mug for 30 minutes and then turn off the oven and leave the mug there until it's cold.

Your mug is now ready to use or give as a gift. Why not make a heart coaster to go with it and deliver breakfast in bed for a special Mother's Day treat.
