Bike helmet on and ready to go
My daughter loves riding her bike and really wanted to get a bike helmet for her doll. Here's an easy way to make your own doll's bike helmet which is surprisingly easy and costs next to nothing. Younger children will be able to do the gluing and sticking but will need help holding the doll still and guiding the shape of the helmet.
Time: 30 minutes plus one day drying time
Age: Under 5's with help, 5-10's, Over 10's, Any Age

Materials
Craft varnish or clear nail varnish
Cheap materials
Cover the doll's head in cling film
Ready for paste
Make a paste with 3 parts PVA glue to 1 part water
Brush the paste over the cling film on the doll's head
Paste over the cling film
Tear up strips of coloured tissue paper
Place the tissue over the gluey cling film
Young children can enjoy pasting and sticking strips of coloured tissue
Brush more paste onto the tissue and add another layer of tissue paper, building up the shape of a helmet
You can roll a piece of tissue paper and stick it on to make a visor shape. Cover with lots more paste.
You can make different shapes by adding rolls of tissue and brushing on lots of paste
Keep going until you have a good shape and a decent thickness
You can add contrasting tissue paper to make stripes. Or you could glue on other embellishments.
We added some contrasting red stripes
Once you're happy with the shape, leave to dry on the doll's head overnight
When dried out, remove the bike helmet and apply varnish to give a shiny hard finish
Use clear nail varnish if you don't have craft varnish
Carefully peel out the cling film
Peel back the cling film
Apply more varnish to the inside
When dry, the bike helmet is ready to wear!
Ready for a bike ride
