Easy Butterfly Cupcakes

These cupcakes are super easy to create and would make a great alternative to a birthday cake for any child's special day. Kids can decorate these cakes with very little direction or supervision so this could also make a party activity in lieu of a craft table or game.

A perfect little butterfly for your sweet fix


Time: 10 minutes (this excludes baking the cakes)
Age: Any age
Level: Easy

Materials
12 cupcakes (with frosting)
A bag of chocolate freckles - you need 4 per cake so 48 in total)
M&M's or Smarties - You'll need around 4 per cake so budget for 50 in total)

You can use any flavour cupcake and whichever colour frosting you have. Ensure that you only frost the cakes just prior to decorating so that it is still soft.

Method

I used chocolate cupcakes for the base


Frost your cupcake of choice.

Add your frosting


Create the body of the butterfly by placing three upright M&M's in a row and then placing a final M&M at the top of the line and press flat into the frosting for the butterfly's head.

Create the body


Once the body is in place, you need to add on the wings. To do so, just place two chocolate freckles at the top and then two at the bottom.

Add some wings


Your butterfly cupcake is now ready for tasting.
