Here's an easy way to spruce up a regular crafting tool, your tape dispenser. It's simple and cute, and once you're finished it's still fully functioning. It's easy enough that most kids over 5 can do it without too much help.

Method
Disassemble your tape dispenser by taking out the sticky tape and the paper insert.

Trace around the paper insert on your blue or grey paper.

Cut out your traced shape, and draw two arch shaped feet each with three toe-nails.

Re-assemble the tape dispenser by first putting in the traced shape, and then putting in the sticky tape roll.

Use a small amount of PVA glue (or a hot glue gun) and glue one googly eye just above the trunk.

Your elephant is now ready. Of course you'll have to turn him upside down when you want to get some tape, but when you're not sticky-taping it'll just make a cute addition to the crafting desk.

What other animals do you think you could make out of every day (functioning) objects?

What a fun idea - I love this! I was thinking when I saw the pictures that you could make it into a snail when turned the right way round:)
