We enjoyed making our own decorative stamped clay lids and decided to make our own gold coins in the same way. The coins are chunky and heavy so make great pirate treasure.

Time: 20 minutes plus drying time
Age: Any age
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Small lids (e.g. milk bottle lids or miniature jam jar lids)
  • Air drying clay
  • Number or picture to stamp in (we used a cardboard number but a fridge magnet number or other rubber stamp would work well)
  • Gold paint

  • We used milk bottle lids for our coins

    Method
  • Press air drying clay into the lid until it is flush with the top of the lid.
  • Press a number or other rubber stamp picture into the top of the clay.

  • Allow to dry for around 24 hours.
  • Paint your coins gold.

  • Your pirate treasure is now ready!
