My toddler loves to paint with brushes, sponges and best of all fingers and hands. However, you don't always have to paint on paper. It's the fun of painting that's most important and the end result doesn't really matter too much.
Why not try experimenting by painting on other surfaces. Aluminium foil is good fun as it's shiny and makes a crinkly noise while you paint.
Time: 10 - 20 minutes depending on how much fun your kid is having.

Method
Lay a piece of aluminium foil on your table or easel and fix in place with some masking tape.
Mix a little paint into some glue (this will mean that the paint will adhere to the foil).
Let your child paint the foil anyway they want.
Talk about the reflecting light, sounds and colours as they paint.
What else could you paint onto? Once the gluey paint has dried, you could you use your foil to cover a toilet roll tube and make a shiny rocket.
