We discovered that the natural pattern of Kiwi Fruit lends itself to being made into edible creatures, such as these baby fruit turtles. Then we had to make a mother turtle to go with them and a juicy green apple fit the scene just right. You can easily make your own "fruit turtle family" and little fingers will enjoy putting all the shapes together themselves too.

Materials

1 kiwi fruit
9 grapes
1/2 green apple
12 tooth picks (optional)
1 fruit knife

Method

Slice the kiwi fruit across the fruit so you can use the cool dot patterns for the turtle "shell". Isn't Mother Nature wonderful?

Slice the grapes in half to create little turtle feet and use a whole grape for the "head". Line up the "feet" and your edible turtle is ready to eat.

If you want to make a turtle family, you could use a green apple to be the mother turtle and do the same with the grapes to make her head and feet. You could use toothpicks to make the grapes stay in place, but these may be too sharp for younger children to use.

This is a fun way to present fruit to fussy eaters and to encourage their involvement in food preparation. Enjoy.
