Use inexpensive salt dough with cocoa added to create these little gingerbread men to decorate your tree. Personalize them for friends or relatives. They make a great gift for school friends or use them as gift toppers for an extra special touch.

Level: Easy

Materials
Salt dough (see recipe in the method section)
Glitter glue
Acrylic paint
Buttons, sequins, felt or other embellishments
Ribbon
Acrylic spray sealer

Method

Make the cocoa salt dough: 1 cup salt, 1 cup flour, 1 cup cocoa, 3/4 cup water. My dough was very dry and crumbly so I ended up adding about another 1/4 cup of water gradually. If the dough is too sticky, add 1 tablespoon of flour and 1 tablespoon of salt until workable.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface as you would for gingerbread cookies.
Cut out your gingerbread men.
Use the end of a straw to cut the hole in the top for hanging.

Final gingerbread man

Bake at 250 degrees Fahrenheit or 120 degrees Celsius until the gingerbread men are dry. It will take at least 1 hour.

This recipe made 20 gingerbread men.

Let cool and decorate with glitter glue, paint, buttons and/or sequins.

Final gingerbread man
These were gifts for school friends so we personalized the gingerbread men.

Final gingerbread man

Spray with a glossy acrylic sealer to give them some shine. They are cute without it but have an added shine after the sealer is applied and it will help preserve the ornaments.

Tie a ribbon through the hole for hanging on the tree and gift away!
