Handprint Fish Card

Handprint Fish Card

Posted 2013-06-05 by Oxford Explorerfollow

My son is going to a birthday party and the present we have bought is a book about a fish called Stanley. We decided it would be fun to make a birthday card with the same theme.

Time: 10 minutes
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Card
  • Paint
  • Hand
  • Black Marker
  • Glue
  • Scrap of white paper

  • Method
  • Paint only the hand to be printed.
  • Turn the card sideways (it's easier to turn the card than have a toddler or baby try to twist their hand).
  • The palm print will make the fish body and the fingers the tail and fins.
  • Press hand to the card and release.

  • Let the paint dry and then decorate with a circle of white paper for an eye and draw a smiling mouth. If you have googly eyes you could use these instead of white paper.

  • For older children who will sit still long enough you could try painting different colours on different parts of the hand for a multi coloured effect.

My 10 month son also got involved. If you're trying this with young children, have everything ready in advance and wipes close by to clean hands afterwards as it can get quite messy.
