A fun card to make and give, the surprise is on the inside! Pop up cards are a great paper craft and a super way to offer a special greeting.

Time: 15 minutes (plus drying time for paint and glue)
Age: 5-10's, Over 10's
Level: Medium

Materials
  • Birthday card template (see Method)
  • Card stock or other thick paper
  • Glue
  • Paint, felt pen and glitter

  • Method
  • Go to pop up cake for the template and detailed folding instructions for the card.
  • Print out your template on heavy paper or card stock.

  • Cut out the cake and the candles.
  • Fold your candles and cake according to the directions .
  • Paint and/or decorate the candles and cake. Allow to dry. Fold and the candles and cake again as the paint and glitter makes the paper a bit stiff.

  • Decorate the outside of your card if you wish.

  • Simple wave shapes in different colours decorate but do not detract from the inside surprise!

  • Glue your candles and cake to the inside of your card. Allow the glue to dry and then carefully fold in the candles and cake. After a couple of times opening and closing, the paper will loosen and the cake and candles will "pop up" easily.
  • Write in a message for that special person and surprise them with their own pop up card!
