One of the most enjoyable aspects about holidays is putting up seasonal decorations. When it comes to Halloween, there is nothing more seasonal than a jack-o-lantern. The name comes from 'will-o'-the-wisp', a term used to describe ghostly lights flickering around bogs in English folklore. They are great fun to make, but should always be done with adult supervision.
Time: 45 minutes (depends on the size of your pumpkin)
Age: Over 10s
Level: Medium
Materials
Method
Draw a face on your pumpkin, and a ring around the stalk.
Using a knife, carve out the ring, and remove the top by popping the knife underneath and pushing down.
With a spoon, scoop out all the pulp and seeds. If you like, you can save the seeds to make a
snack. It might be necessary to snip the pulp away from the inside shell with a pair of scissors.
Carve out the face, and smooth off by scraping around the edges.
Put a tea light at the bottom, and light it with a match. Then put the stem lid back on, and put it outside, or somewhere dark.
