Posted 2013-08-01 by Jane Streetfollow

This bright jellyfish card is perfect for a first birthday. The tentacles wiggle and swish as you move the card.

Time: 15 minutes
Age: Under 5's, 5-10's
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Pink cellophane
  • Net bag (e.g. mandarin or onion packaging)
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue stick and PVA glue
  • Blank card
  • Small piece of scrap cardboard

  • Starting materials

    Method
  • Cut a rectangle of scrap cardboard about the size of the jellyfish head.
  • Cut 3 rectangles of cellophane the desired size of your final jellyfish and arrange these as 3 layers.
  • Glue the top of the first layer of cellophane onto the rectangle of cardboard with a glue stick. Repeat with the other layers, only gluing the section of cellophane which covers the cardboard rectangle.

  • Cellophane layers glued onto cardboard backing

  • Cut a rectangle out of the net material the same size as the cardboard rectangle and glue the net on top of the cellophane using the glue stick.

  • When dry, turn over and cut the cardboard rectangle into a semi-circle head shape leaving loose cellophane layers hanging down.

  • Back of jellyfish

  • Make cuts into the loose cellophane layers up to the cardboard head to make swishy tentacles.

  • Glue googly eyes onto the head with PVA glue.
  • Glue the cardboard head onto a blank card, leaving the tentacles loose to swish around.

  • Your jellyfish card is now ready to send. You could add an extra personal touch with a drawing inside.
