Ladybird and Caterpillar Felt Creations
This is a fun and creative activity to keep your kids entertained at home or on the go. I originally saw this idea on Facebook through
www.toddlerapproved.com as a 'caterpillar busy bag' idea - however, while preparing the materials with my daughter, she came up with a completely different idea and we ran with it!
Preparation Time: Less than 5 minutes
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy
Materials
Felt in various colours
Googly eyes
Scissors
Glue (optional)
The materials for this crafty idea cost less than 10
Method
Put aside 1 full sheet of felt. This will be used as the background.
Using the remaining felt and scissors, cut out a variety of shapes in different colours. We used different sized circles, thin rectangles and semi-circles.
Using various colours, cut out different shapes from the felt
Let your little one create by manipulating the shapes to make different patterns, animals, insects etc.
My daughter decided she wanted to make a ladybird today just like Gaston from Ben Hollys Little Kingdom.
She designed and put together each part of the ladybird a great fine gross motor activity
If you like, you can glue the pieces together, but I prefer to keep them separate, because they can be reused over and over again.
Using the felt backing, we also make a colourful caterpillar
If you would like to make this a portable item, you could make or buy a drawstring bag - that way your kids can create on the go too!
