This is a great activity to do at home or in a group setting. It's easy for an adult to prepare in advance, so kids can get straight into having fun especially if time or attention span is short!

Lion mask

Time: 15 minutes
Age: Under 5's, 5-10's
Level: Easy

Materials

  • Paper plate
  • Black felt tip
  • Yellow/ orange card
  • Tissue/ crepe paper in various oranges and yellows
  • PVA glue
  • Scissors
  • Blue tac
  • Stapler
  • Elastic

  • Method

  • Place a ball of blue tac on the work surface. Place plate over the top, where you want to make a hole for the lions eye and push scissors through to make a hole. Move the plate so you can repeat the process an inch apart.

  • Cut eye shapes out of the plate away from one another, test that you can see out of these.

  • Draw a nose and mouth as seen in the picture.

  • Cut two ears out of yellow or orange card and staple on (make sure sharp staple ends face out the front of the mask so they do not scratch anyone's face.

  • Stick strips of orange and yellow tissue or crepe paper around the trim of the plate to make a lions mane.

  • Roar

  • Measure the head of the mask wearer and cut a piece of elastic to size and staple it on (again make sure any sharp ends are coming out the front of the mask).
