Messy Paint Spraying
This is a messy activity to do outdoors on a sunny day. It is a lot of fun and sure to excite kids of any age.
Time: 20 minutes
Age: Under 5's, 5-10's, Any Age
Level: Easy
Materials
Long roll of paper.
Old spray bottle (empty and rinsed out well)
Several colours of paint
Clothes pegs
Piece of string or washing line
Cheap starting materials
Method
Hang the string or washing line outside somewhere you don't mind getting messy
Cut a long piece of paper from the roll and clip to the line with clothes pegs. You could clip coins with more clothes pegs to the bottom edge of the paper if it is flapping about. I buy long rolls of craft paper from IKEA and cut off the desired length but you could also use wallpaper lining paper or a large sheet of paper.
Paper hung up and ready for paint
Put an inch of water in the bottom of the clean empty spray bottle and put a few squirts of paint in.
Adding more water to the mixture will have a drippier effect whilst adding more paint to the spray bottle will result in stronger blobs
Make sure the spray bottle is rinsed out well first
Shake the spray bottle to mix the paint and water well
Have fun spraying the paint mixture onto the paper. Experiment with holding it close to the paper to make drippy blobs and standing further back to make a finer mist effect.
The fun part
Rinse out the spray bottle and repeat with different colours
Try different colours, paint and water ratios and standing distance from the paper to get different types of drips and splats
