Here's how to make a very quick and easy witch's or wizard's cloak for a Halloween dress up costume. It's made out of an old skirt and no sewing is required! We made a black cloak but it could also work well in a bright colour to make a superhero cape without ties around the neck.
Time: 10 minutes
Age: Any age
Level: Easy
Materials
Look out in op shops/ charity shops for cheap skirts. We picked ours up very cheaply in a local theatre's wardrobe sale.
Method
Cut the skirt in half lengthways to give two identical pieces. You will only use one of the pieces to make one cloak.
Cut two vertical slits in the half skirt, making sure you don't cut into the waist band of the skirt. These are arm holes for the cloak. (We used my daughter's vest jacket as a guide for the spacing where the arm slits should be cut).
Apply some clear nail varnish at the ends of the slits to help prevent the fabric tearing.
Put on the cloak like you would a waistcoat or vest jacket/gillet.
Why not try making your own
papier mache witch's cauldron to go with it?
