Paper Plate Puppets
Hand sewing is a great task to teach patience, persistence and fine motor skills. A needle and thread create this unique heart card.
Time:20 minutes
Age: 5-10's, Over 10's
Level: Medium
Materials
Heavy craft paper or card stock
Large eye needle
Embroidery thread or similar heavy thread
Method
Trace the shape you would like to sew on your card.
Thread a large needle with embroidery thread or other heavy thread. Poke the needle through the shape from the back of the card and pull the thread most of the way through. Tape the end of your thread to your card.
If you run out of thread, simply cut another piece, restart and tape the end.
Pull the thread across your shape and poke through the paper again. Move a small space over on the back and again poke the needle through the back of the card.
This is how the back of your card will look. The small spaces form the shape of the heart on the inside.
Repeat until you have formed your shape with the criss crossing lines of thread.
Erase the lines of your shape.
We wanted to tidy up the inside of the card so we cut a piece of paper slightly smaller than the card and glued it on.
Personalize your card with a birthday message or thank you note!
