Pet Ladybirds

Create some little ladybird pets out of clay and buttons. It's a fun project for preschoolers which needs to be worked on over different days.

Time: 20 minutes on different days and 24 hours drying time.
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
Air drying clay
Red and black acrylic paint
Pencil
White PVA glue
Small black buttons

Method
Make a small ball of air drying clay and squash gently to make the ladybird shape.
Score lines for the head and wings gently with a pencil.

Press the buttons in to the clay to make spots.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.
When dry, pick the buttons out and set to the side, remembering where they go if they are different sizes.
Paint the head black and body red and set aside to dry.

When dry, fill the spot dents with white PVA glue and press the buttons back in on top of the glue.

Brush some PVA glue over the whole painted area to seal it and give a glossy varnish finish.
