Pet Ladybirds

Posted 2014-02-21 by Jane Streetfollow
Create some little ladybird pets out of clay and buttons. It's a fun project for preschoolers which needs to be worked on over different days.

Time: 20 minutes on different days and 24 hours drying time.
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Air drying clay
  • Red and black acrylic paint
  • Pencil
  • White PVA glue
  • Small black buttons

  • Method
  • Make a small ball of air drying clay and squash gently to make the ladybird shape.
  • Score lines for the head and wings gently with a pencil.

  • Press the buttons in to the clay to make spots.

  • Allow to dry for 24 hours.
  • When dry, pick the buttons out and set to the side, remembering where they go if they are different sizes.
  • Paint the head black and body red and set aside to dry.

  • When dry, fill the spot dents with white PVA glue and press the buttons back in on top of the glue.

  • Brush some PVA glue over the whole painted area to seal it and give a glossy varnish finish.

  • Meet Gaston and Lucy
