Cupcake liners come in many bright and fun colours. They are inexpensive, easy to work with and are likely available in your pantry. Our cupcake birthday cards are easy and fun to create as well as to give and receive!

Time: 10 minutes maximum
Age: Any Age
Level: Easy

Materials
  • Cupcake liners
  • Card stock
  • Tissue paper
  • Small poms poms, glitter, small beads
  • Glue
  • Scissors

  • Method
  • Cut a cupcake liner into quarters, each quarter can be used on a separate card.

  • Prepare the card stock - we used note size cards (half a sheet of paper).
  • Glue the bottom of a cupcake liner to the card. We found it was easier to glue the sides after attaching the "icing".

  • Cut a strip of tissue paper about 3 cm (1 inch) wide and 12-15 cm (6 inches) long. Glue the tissue paper strip above the liner to resemble icing.

  • Experiment with different colours and shapes of tissue paper. Brown tissue looks like chocolate icing or cut a square and crumple for a different icing texture.

  • Glue the sides of the cupcake liner down.
  • Add glitter, beads, pom poms or whatever you would like to decorate your cupcake.

  • Complete with a birthday message and you have yourself a wonderful homemade birthday card!
