Make your own sandart pictures
I'm always on the look out for something different and unusual to do with my kids. A friend had shared a link on facebook to SandArtPlay
and I knew I would have to try it out. After contacting them for more information, they very kindly sent me a pack to try out and review.
The packs are recommended for over 4s. My son is almost four but my niece is older so we got together on a sunny Sunday to see what we thought.
Sand Art Play gift pack
Our gift pack was Girls SandArt Gift Pack 2 and contained four different postcards with a butterflies, a fairy or dragonfly theme to choose from. There a various packs available in different designs you can also buy extra postcards or bookmarks.
11 colourful different sands to choose from
My niece was excited about the designs and chose a pretty butterfly one and my son really liked the dragonfly. I was impressed that the designs were intricate without being overly fiddly and that they weren't cartoon like. Definitely appealing for a wide range of ages.
The poscards consist of a sticky back and you peel of sections as you go. After simply peeling a few sections that you want in the same colour, you just pour over the colour of sand that you want and then shake it off. You then keep repeating the process, by revealing new sections and pouring over a different colour of sand.
look at my butterly
Both kids really enjoyed this and loved seeing how their design developed. The range of colours meant there was plenty of choice and the best quote direct from my niece was 'I love this, I really do'. Both kids really enjoyed creating something that looked special but without getting frustrated. Although my son and niece are on the young side for this activity they had a great time with a little help from the Mums. I'm sure slightly older kids could be occupied with this on their own for hours.
SandArtPlay creations made by two very happy kids
The kit also includes a plastic sleeve that can be used to 'laminate' the postcard by sticking it to the border. My sister has a laminator that she picked up cheaply so we decided to use that instead.
This is just one of many kits available that range in size and price. I recommend them as a great activity for kids looking for something unique. They would also make a great gift to for a birthday or Christmas and if you're like me you'll end up wanting to make one yourself. If you run an after school activity club there are various packages on offer too.
SandArtPlay is a family business and it's obvious the owners have kids themselves. They have created just the right blend of creativity and fun with a commitment to quality and they conform to all the safety standards you would expect.
