Knitted Flower

This is a very simple knitting pattern, which is perfect for an older child to try as their first knitting activity. It's quick to do and makes a sweet gift, either pinned to a hair band or turned into a brooch.

Time: 30 minutes
Age: Over 10's
Level: Medium

Materials
4mm knitting needles
Ball of yarn
Large-eyed needle
Buttons
Ribbons
Brooch pin

Method
Cast on 50 stitches. If you don't know how to cast on, the see my Howto article here.

Knit 6-10 rows of knit stitch, until the knitting is half as wide as you want the diameter of the flower to be.

Do not cast off, instead leave a long tail of wool.

Thread your large-eyed needle and then thread the needle through all the stitches on the knitting needle.

Pull gently on the thread to gather the flower.

Curl the strip of knitting around on itself, and then fix it in place with a few stitches at the back of the flower.

Decorate with buttons or ribbons, if you'd like, and then affix to a hair band or t-shirt with a brooch pin.
