Crazy Crayons

Here's a great way to recycle your old crayon stubs. Making your own crazy crayons is easy and great fun. The finished crayons can be used for drawing. Children will need help from an adult for this project as it involves an oven and hot wax.

Materials

Old crayon stubs

Silicon baking mold

Materials ready to go. My daughter couldn't wait to get started

Method

Take any paper off the crayon stubs and break up any larger pieces as small as possible

Don't forget to remove any paper

Fill your silicon moulds with the broken crayon stubs. You don't need to fill the molds all the way to the top but you should aim for a final size which is at least a few centimetres deep so that it doesn't snap when you take it out of the mold

Fill the molds with crayon pieces

Ready for the oven

Place the silicon mold onto a tray and put into a hot oven approx 200 degrees.

Remove once the wax has fully melted (5-15 minutes)

Wax setting

Allow the wax to completely cool then remove the crayons from the mold.

Silicon molds make it easy to pop the crayons out

Your crazy crayons are now ready to use

These would make great cheap items to add into a birthday party bag and you could pick a shape to go with your party theme.
