These spell books are best suited to older children, as they can be a little bit tricky and time consuming. The finished product makes a great prop, and can be used for party decorations or just as something to play with.

Method
Lay the cereal box on top of the card, and measure the amount you'll need for the cover.

Fold the card over the book when measuring, don't just measure the front and back (otherwise you can end up leaving the spine out. Leave about 1-1.5cm of card around the box, this helps give the impression of a hardcover book.

Cover one side of the box with double sided tape, and then place it on top of the card and stick them together. Make sure you're leaving enough card around the box.

Repeat with the spine, and then with the other side of the box.

Choose a colour for your book. Dark reds, blues, greens, or even black are the best because they help the books look older and more authentic. Paint over any bits of visible card. You might want to do two coats of paint.

Leave to dry.

Once the book is dry, grab some sheets of paper. If you've got a small cereal box, then 1 sheet of A4 paper will probably do. Cut the paper so that there are three pieces, one for each side of the box that is still exposed. Using double sided tape, stick these in place.

You can draw lines on the paper if you wish, to give the impression of pages.

Use your gold or silver pens to decorate your book. If you're drawing a border around the book make sure you use a ruler. You can be simple or outlandish with your decorations. Here's a list of published works in the Harry Potter universe to give you a bit of inspiration. Of course, you don't have to choose one of them, why not become the author of your own spell book?
