The salad spinner drags the paint out from the centre

The centrifugal force of a salad spinner is an unusual way to create interesting artwork. You could make your design on a simple circle or try making eggs like we did for Easter. Talk through the process with your child and see their amazement when they open the spinner back up.

Time: 10 minutes
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Materials
Salad spinner
Non toxic paint
Water
Paper
Scissors

Method
Cut a piece of paper any shape you want that will fit in the salad spinner. We cut our paper to look like an egg.
Place the paper on the bottom of the salad spinner.

Squirt on a few splodges of paint.

Add a little paint, you can choose more than one colour if you want

Put the lid on the salad spinner and get spinning.

Open up the spinner to see how the paint has been dragged out across the paper.

You might need to experiment with the thickness of your paint

On our first attempt the paint was too thick so we watered it down and tried again. The next time was too watery but a bit like Goldilocks, it was just right the third time. The spinning is just as much fun as the end result for a playful pre schooler.
