Sea Turtle Beach Picture
Children will have so much fun making their own version of the classic game of Memory. Even better, after they are done they will have hours of fun playing this fun and educational game.
We chose to use stamps and markers to make our memory cards, but older children could simply draw their own pictures.
Time: One hour
Age: Under 5's, 5-10's, Over 10's, Any Age
Level: Easy
Materials
Patterned thick construction paper, ideally 30cm x 30cm
Pencil
Ruler
Scissors
Stamps and ink pad
Markers or crayons
Method
Select a brightly patterned sheet of thick construction paper. One side of the paper should be white.
For this project, I used scrapbook sized construction paper. It is the perfect size and it is very thick.
Create a grid of 5cm x 5cm squares by first drawing lines 5cm apart going one direction.
Younger children who are not yet old enough to complete this step can help by holding the ruler steady.
Rotate the page and then draw another set of lines 5cm apart.
Five centimeters is large enough for this project, but you could also choose to make bigger squares.
The result should be 36 squares, each 5cm x 5cm.
For younger children, 36 squares may be too many. Starting with less will make the craft more easily managed.
Create 18 unique pairs of cards, ensuring that each pair is as close to identical as you can make them. We chose to do this by first stamping two cards and then colouring them identically.
We chose an animal theme for our game but you can also create random pairs.
Once you have created 18 pairs, you are ready to play Memory. Randomly lay out each of the cards face down. Each player takes a turn trying to uncover a pair by selecting two cards per turn. Once a pair is uncovered, the player adds the pair to his or her pile. The winner of the game is the player to collect the greatest number of pairs.
Memory is a perfect game for children and adults of all ages!
