Shell Encrusted Mermaid Crown

Shell Encrusted Mermaid Crown

Posted 2013-11-04 by Jane Streetfollow

Create a shell encrusted crown for a little mermaid - the perfect dress up accessory for a sea-themed party. As super glue is involved, this one is best for a grown up to make. Younger children can help to pick out shells and choose where they go on the headband.

Time: 10 minutes
Age: Over 10s
Level: Easy

Materials
  • A collection of shells
  • Hairband
  • Super glue
  • Sand paper

  • Starting materials

    Method
  • Collect small shells from a beach or buy a bag in a craft shop or garden centre.

  • If your hairband has a shiny finish, lightly rub sandpaper over the area you want to stick the shells onto.

  • Rub with sandpaper

  • Apply a drop of super glue to the band and stick a shell on, holding for a few minutes until set. Try to angle the shell to have as much surface touching the hairband as possible. Repeat with more shells. Be very careful not to get super glue on your fingers.

  • When the band is complete, put a few extra drops of super glue around the shells on the band for extra strength.
  • Allow the crown to dry fully.

  • Your mermaid crown is now ready to wear.
