Tips for Writing an Attractive Message Inside a Card
This is such a simple recipe to make with your children, and with a touch of colour and decoration becomes a great Halloween treat.
For children with food allergies just check the packets – puffed rice cereal is available gluten free (check there is no malt) and marshmallows are also available gluten free. Beacon Marshmallows are dairy, soy, egg, yeast, wheat & gluten free. Freedom Foods Rice Puffs are gluten, wheat & nut free, low in sugar and fat.
Time: Allow 30-40 minutes if working with young children
Age: Any Age
Level: Easy
You will need:
3 tablespoons butter or margarine or ½ cup coconut oil
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Rice Bubbles or similar puffed rice cereal
Food colouring – orange & green are great for Halloween
Spooky themed cake decorations or sweets such as red frogs, spiders, bats, eye balls.
Method:
Prepare a 23 x 20 cm baking tin (9 x 13 inch pan) by greasing with butter or non-stick spray. You can line it with baking paper if desired.
Melt the marshmallows and butter or oil together in a saucepan over a low-medium heat, or you can use a microwave on medium-high for 3 minutes (stir after 2 minutes).
Remove from the heat.
Fold in 2-3 drops of red food colouring and 6-8 yellow to make a pumpkin coloured treat. 3-5 drops of green will make quite a dark colour. Start with 2-3 drops and increase by 1 drop at a time until the desired shade is reached.
In a large bowl, mix together rice bubbles and melted marshmallow mixture, stirring until combined.
Press into the pan, mark out the squares and add the decorations. Allow to cool for at least 2 hours before cutting and serving. Wetting the knife can make it easier to cut.
Happy Halloween!
