Toy (27)      Fishing Rod (2)

They might not catch many fish for supper, but making this toy fishing rod will keep the kids occupied for a while.

Time: 25 minutes
Age: 5-10's, Over 10's
Level: Medium

Materials
Long stick
4 rubber bands (although it depends on the length of your stick)
Reel of thread
Coat hanger
Scissors

Method
For your stick, you can always search for one in the park, but for a rod with a smoother finish, I used a bamboo stick from the garden centre.

Wrap a rubber band around the stick and push it three quarters of the way down. Wrap two more rubber bands around the stick in the same fashion, but pushing one half way down, and another a quarter of the way.

Take the reel of thread and unravel it to about the same length of the stick. Pass the tip through each rubber band, starting with the end one.

Hold the reel of thread underneath the end of stick the stick but still making sure there is enough room to hold the stick with both hands.
Take the fourth rubber band and wrap it round the reel and the stick to hold the reel in place.

Break the hook off a coat hanger and tie it to the end piece of thread.
