Instructions
Using wax crayons draw patterns, names or wording onto the hard boiled eggs. Lighter coloured crayons are best. Make sure crayon has been applied quite thickly but be careful not to crack the egg.
Mix up food dyes according to instructions in shallow bowls or old cups and try to make strong colours which should be darker than the colours of the wax crayons used for best results..
Place eggs which have been decorated with wax crayon patterns into the dyes and leave for a couple of hours.
Take eggs out of dye using tongs or wear protective gloves to avoid dye from staining hands. The wax crayon patterns will resist the dye and remain intact so that only the background behind the patterns will take on the colour of the dye.
Place eggs on kitchen towel to dry.
Make lots and fill a basket with them for a pretty Easter display or hide in the garden for an Easter egg hunt.
Not advisable to eat afterwards.
