Whale Watching

Whale Watching

Posted 2013-08-06 by Lucy follow
It is whale watching season here on Australia's east coast and it is pretty easy to make some recycled egg carton whales to re-enact the seasonal Humpback whale migration. They are so cute and cheap to make, why not make a whole pod?

Two friendly whales

Time: 25 minutes
Age: Under 5's
Level: Easy

Cut out the egg carton cup

Materials

  • 1 egg carton "cup"
  • 2 googly eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pen
  • Colorful pipe cleaners
  • Sticky tape

  • Method

  • Cut out an egg carton "cup" to be the whale body.

  • Cut out a whale tail

  • Cut out some of the egg carton lid (the flat part) to be the whale's "tail" and body base.

  • Add some colored pipe cleaners

  • Make a hole in the whale's "head" and poke through some colored pipe cleaners to make a "spout".

  • Attach the body to the tail

  • Attach the whale's body to the tail, with some extra sticky taper glue.
  • *Glue on some googly eyes and draw on a friendly smile (or frown?).

  • Now your whale is ready for some fun - does he need some friends to play with? Maybe he could visit the octopus garden next door?
